About getupdraft.com/get-my-udid
The UDID of your iOS devices is needed if you want to install alpha and beta iOS apps onto your device before they are released to the official apple store. With getupdraft.com/get-my-udid you can find your device UDID in a few seconds and you can send it afterwards to your developer or the person who wants to send you an alpha or beta app for testing. Your developer will then add your device UDID to the apple developer account to pre-register your iOS device for ad hoc signing. So it is possible to install iOS apps on selected iOS devices already during the development phase. If you would like to read more about this we wrote a blog post about How to add UDID (iOS devices) to your Apple Developer Account.
How it works
Updraft uses a secure Apple Mobile Device Management configuration profile to collect the UDID of your iOS device. As soon you have installed the Updraft configuration profile on your iOS device your device information are send encrypted back to the browser page where you have opened getupdraft.com/get-my-udid.
You can check if the configuration profile has been installed if you check the iOS system settings of your device by going to: Settings → General → Profiles. If there is no such section then there is no configuration profile installed on your device.
What is a UDID?
UDID is an abbreviation for Unique Device Identifier (UDID). The UDID is a feature provided by Apple to identify iOS devices. Apple uses the UDID to communicate between Apple servers and individual iOS devices. This allows Apple to associate the Apple ID and the Cloud ID with the corresponding iOS device. Each iOS device has an unique ID.
There are two formats of ID: iOS devices that came on the market between 2007 and 2018 have a 40-digit lowercase hexadecimal code and all devices after 2018 have a 25-digit uppercase hexadecimal code.
